Larry Whaley, President and CEO
Haynes Whaley Associates, Inc.
Haynes Whaley Associates knows a thing or two about strong foundations. The firm provides structural engineering services for a broad range of commercial, public, and institutional projects.
Haynes Whaley opened its doors in 1976 and, over the years, the firm has flourished, expanding from one office in Houston, Texas to opening offices in Washington, D.C. in 1986 and in Austin in 2001. The firm is now an international force with projects in 40 states, the District of Columbia, Africa, the Caribbean, Malaysia and Singapore.
Haynes Whaley started building its banking relationship with Rich Jochetz, Texas Gulf Bank's President, in 1988. As the firm expanded its national footprint, they turned to Rich and Cliff Green, Texas Gulf Bank's Chief Lending Officer, for the capital necessary to fuel their growth plans.
"In addition to providing us with the business checking accounts for operations, term lending and lines-of-credit we needed to grow, Texas Gulf Bank has served us well in an advisory role. Rich and Cliff are very seasoned businessmen and we value their input. We routinely meet to update them on our prospective projects, current projects and our financial position. As our company continues to grow, we regularly seek their business advice,” explained Larry Whaley, President and CEO.
When asked what sets Texas Gulf Bank apart from other banks he's worked with in the past, Larry Whaley said, "Texas Gulf Bank understands our business. They realize that the structural engineering industry has many unique nuances, and they adjust their banking expectations to be compatible with our business needs and specific market challenges.”
During a time when many financial institutions severely tightened their lending requirements, to the point of ceasing lending altogether, Texas Gulf Bank has continued to support its business banking customers.
"Haynes Whaley, like many businesses, has been through some very challenging times over the last two years. During the recent downturn in the economy, we saw the opportunity to implement some key elements of our Long-term Strategic Plan to better position ourselves for future growth. Executing this plan involved investing in the startup of three affiliated businesses focused on new market sectors. When we presented our plan to Texas Gulf Bank, they encouraged us and agreed to help fund our new ventures. Without their help we would not have been as ready to capitalize on the economy's gradual upswing. Our long-term banking relationship with Texas Gulf Bank provides us with the solid foundation we need to forge continual growth.”
"With Texas Gulf Bank we have the best of both worlds. TGB has the capacity of a national bank coupled with the personal services you can normally only find at a smaller, hometown bank. When we walk into Texas Gulf Bank, they know us by name and are eager to assist. Haynes Whaley has achieved success by providing a consistent high level of service to our clients and building and maintaining long-term relationships. We have found this same culture at Texas Gulf Bank. They care about our business and have a genuine interest in seeing us succeed. We could not have found a better partner. They are a perfect fit for our firm and our banking needs.”
Since Texas Gulf Bank opened its first branch in Freeport, Texas in 1913, it has been a strong, stable, and financially secure member of the community. We are proud to play a part in building businesses like Haynes Whaley Associates.
